Voyage Denver | Life and Work with Autumn Corin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Corin.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
There’s always been a soundtrack playing in my head. Growing up in New York City, music is everywhere. It’s saturated. For as long as I can remember, music has always been inside me. I’d get in trouble at school for dancing in line or singing out loud at my desk. I don’t think there’s been a single day that I haven’t sung in the past ten years. I didn’t realize my love for singing, though, until the 4th grade. It was 2011, and my dad had just been stationed at the army base in Vicenza, Italy. We all picked up as a family and left our home in Delaware to go live overseas and be with him. I decided to join my school choir, just to get involved, and little did I know that it would mark the beginning of such an incredible journey. In February of 2012, my teacher picked the song “Joyful, Joyful” from Sister Act 2, for us to perform for Black History Month. I got the opening solo. Walking up to the mic on the day of the performance, I remember thinking to myself, this is going to go one of two ways; I’m either going to sound horrible and shaky or sound decent. I let out the first note and I knew right then and there that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I’ve performed in choir and participated in theatre/shows every single year of my life since then and I am now a senior in high school. I decided to start sharing my singing on social media in August of 2017 and thought I would get nowhere. It wasn’t until my cover of “Boo’d Up” by Ella Mai that I finally started to get some recognition. I stayed hopeful and dedicated, knowing I never wanted to give up the music, although it was hard to stay consistent at first. I now have over 48K followers on Instagram, and it continues to grow every single day! I’m incredibly grateful!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. I constantly question my talent, asking myself if music is truly what I’m meant to do and if I’m good enough. It’s definitely an internal battle, however, it’s the feeling I get when I sing that reminds me of the reason I’m doing this and why I started. It’s the feeling I get when I sing for a big crowd that keeps my flame burning. It’s the way I make others feel when I sing. It’s the way I feel when I have my headphones in and can drown out the rest of the world. It’s the way I feel when I write songs. It’s all a burning passion. I have had multiple people tell me that singing is not a real career and that it won’t get me anywhere. I’ve gotten hate on my social media from people who think that I lip sync in my videos and that it’s not my actual voice. Everything is 100% raw, real, and me. My advice would be to believe in your ability to be freaking great in whatever it is you want to do. More importantly, just believe in yourself. You’re the only person who can make it happen. YOU are your only competition!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am Autumn Corin, most known for my covers and writing to popular beats on Instagram. While my IG page is my main and most popular page, I also have a YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok all targeted to the music. My content consists of mostly singing, however, I also post pictures of myself and everyday life on my page/story so my fans can feel more connected with me. I want my fans to know that I will always be real and genuine. I want them to know I am a normal human being and I want them to be able to relate to me. I want them to get a glimpse into what a day in the life of Autumn looks like and know that singing isn’t the only thing I do. Actually, I was a dancer before I was a singer and I’ve acted in a few plays/musicals! My next goal is to incorporate that into my craft and on my social media pages! I am most proud of the growth I’ve made on my page in just one year. It took me from August 2017 to December 2018 to reach 1K followers, but with hard work and dedication, I am now very close to 50K followers, just one year later!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
While I don’t really read, it is one of my goals, this year, to do it more. I loved reading as a kid, but my love for it kind of dwindled after a few English classes (haha!). I don’t really listen to podcasts or follow any particular blogs, but I do have apps on my phone dedicated specifically for leading a healthier lifestyle. For example, I have a water app that reminds me to drink a certain amount of water. I also have apps that give me 30-day workout challenges and links I saved to my homepage to my favorite workouts I can do at home! Fitness is another one of my big goals this year, specifically relating back to dance!
